“Inner Voice” vs. “Outer Voice”: Why Your Throat Shouldn’t Hurt

Many beginners give up on Throat Singing because their throats hurt. This happens because they are using the “Outer Voice”—squeezing the vocal folds tight to mimic the sound.

Master Otgonhuu’s method is different.

We focus on the “Inner Voice” (Xiaha). Imagine your body is an empty bottle or a resonance box. The sound shouldn’t come from your throat; it should vibrate deep in your chest and abdomen (below the navel).

  • Outer Voice: Tight, sharp, painful, unsustainable.
  • Inner Voice: Deep, warm, healing, effortless.

By learning to relax the chest and engage the “Xiaha,” you can produce powerful overtones without any strain. This is the secret to healthy longevity in singing.
